Ian Wiggins

Ian is Director of International Affairs for the Royal Society, the UK’s National Academy of Sciences, where he leads on the Society’s global engagement.  Before joining the Royal Society, Ian worked at the University of York in a number of roles including the University’s Covid response and its contingency planning around Brexit.  While at the University, Ian was also Secretary to the University’s Executive Board and served as the first Director for the York-Maastricht Partnership, the universities strategic relationship with Maastricht University.  Before moving to York, Ian was a member of the UK’s Diplomatic service including postings to Moscow and Washington D.C. where he was Deputy Head of the Embassy’s political section during the 2016 Presidential elections.  Ian lives in York and has two children at South Bank MAT schools.
