Millthorpe School provides an excellent education to around one thousand young people from age 11 to 16. As well as strong academic results showing excellent progress by all groups of pupils, Millthorpe provides a rich selection of other experiences outside the classroom, including music, competitive sport, art, Duke of Edinburgh, many clubs and a wide range of day and residential educational visits.
The values of the school include respect for all members of the school; equal opportunities for all; high expectations; kindness; inclusion and tolerance; valuing difference; accepting responsibility; working hard and being fair and consistent. The headteacher, Trevor Burton, has been in post since 2011 and has worked to establish a school where all pupils can feel safe and can achieve highly, where all teachers can excel and be encouraged towards outstanding practice, and all parents can have confidence in a high quality of care and education which takes parents’ views seriously.
Millthorpe School has achieved recognition for its work as a Stonewall Champion School, for excellent achievement by the disadvantaged (Pupil Premium Award 2016), for its work with Young Carers (Silver Award 2016) and for outstanding History Provision (Historical Association Quality Mark 2015). It is currently rated Good by Ofsted.
