Headteacher: Mr Adam Cooper
Knavesmire Primary School is an oversubscribed and highly successful school in the south of the City of York. Although its history as a school reaches back to 1915, it has recently expanded to fill the demand for school places in the area. The school is at the heart of its community and has educated many generations of some South Bank families.
While Knavesmire achieves the highest of standards academically, it keeps a broad and creative curriculum for pupils, with a special emphasis on The Arts and on Sport. There are many clubs and activities for pupils out of the classroom.
The headteacher, Adam Cooper, has been head since 2011, previously serving as Deputy Head also in Knavesmire School.
The school currently holds a number of Awards including: Gold Arts Mark Award, Healthy Schools Award, Basic Skills Award (10 year award), Full International School Award, and Gold Sports Award. During the Gold Arts Mark Award assessment process, the school was recommended for Exemplary Arts Mark Status. In addition, Knavesmire is currently rated Ofsted Outstanding.
